Position: Youth Services Worker- Temporary, Full-Time (Canada Summer Jobs)

Work Site: 502 Columbia Street, New Westminster, BC (New Westminster Youth Hub)

Wage: $19/hour

Hours: 35 hours per week for 8 weeks

The Opportunity

Purpose Society is seeking a Youth Services Worker to support youth with education and employment-related goals. This role focuses on helping young people build practical skills for school, work, and long-term planning.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is intended for youth interested in gaining experience in community-based youth services.

The role involves both direct support to youth and behind-the-scenes coordination to ensure resources, workshops, and supports are accessible and up to date.

This is a hands-on role that includes both direct engagement with youth and program support.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Support youth with resume building, job search, and exploring education or training options
  • Assist youth in navigating online job boards, applications, and digital employment tools
  • Help plan and facilitate small group workshops on employment readiness, workplace expectations, budgeting, and time management
  • Maintain up-to-date resource lists related to employment, education, and youth services
  • Support program organization, including updating resource boards and preparing handouts
  • Assist with basic data collection, including attendance tracking and participant feedback
  • Support outreach efforts by helping prepare materials and communication for partner organizations
  • Help maintain a welcoming, organized, and accessible space during drop-in hours
  • Participate in supervision, mentoring, and team meetings

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build rapport and support youth in a respectful, non-judgmental way
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Able to take initiative while working within a team environment
  • Basic computer skills (email, documents, online platforms)
  • Strong connection to the community is an asset

This role is best suited for individuals with the maturity and emotional readiness to work in a frontline youth services environment, including supporting youth who may share complex or sensitive experiences

Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs):

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

Required:

  • 3 Professional references
  • Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification; additional training in crisis intervention or suicide prevention is an asset
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification is an asset
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings
