Position: Youth Worker-Temporary, Full-Time (Canada Summer Jobs)
Work Site: 502 Columbia Street, New Westminster, BC (New Westminster Youth Hub)
Wage: $19/hour
Hours: 35 hours per week for 8 weeks

The Opportunity
Purpose Society is seeking a Youth Worker to support programming at the New Westminster Youth Hub. The Hub is a low-barrier, drop-in space for youth aged 12-24, providing support with basic needs, life skills, mental health, and positive social connections.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is intended for youth who are interested in gaining experience in community-based youth work.
The role is hands-on and involves direct engagement with youth in a fast-paced, relationship-based environment. The successful candidate will support both structured programming and day-to-day drop-in operations.
What You’ll Do
- Support the delivery of life skills and mental wellness groups for youth aged 12-24
- Assist with planning and facilitating activities focused on communication, emotional regulation, goal setting, and decision-making
- Engage youth during drop-in hours and provide information about programs, services, and community resources
- Support harm reduction education by assisting with workshops and preparing materials
- Help plan and run pro-social recreational activities that encourage positive peer connections
- Assist with basic program tracking, including attendance and activity logs
- Support daily operations, including set-up, clean-up, and maintaining a safe and welcoming space
- Follow organizational policies related to safety, confidentiality, and respectful conduct
- Participate in supervision, training, and team meetings
What We Are Looking For
- Interest in working with youth in a community or social services setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build rapport and maintain appropriate boundaries
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable environment
- Organized and able to follow direction while also taking initiative
- Basic computer skills (email, documents, data entry)
- Strong connection to the community is an asset
This role is best suited for individuals with the maturity and emotional readiness to work in a frontline youth services environment, including supporting youth who may share complex or sensitive experiences

Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs):
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada

- 3 Professional references
- Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
- Current First Aid/CPR certification; additional training in crisis intervention or suicide prevention is an asset
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification is an asset
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings
