In Memoriam

In Memory of Adele Clarke, A Long-serving Member of the Board of Directors

The Lower Mainland Purpose Society remembers and honours the contributions that Adele made to the Society over many years of service as a Board member. Adele passed away peacefully at home on November 3, 2025. Adele lived a life defined by compassion, commitment, and a deep belief in the potential of others—qualities that closely reflect the Lower Mainland Purpose Society’s values of dignity, inclusion, and community care.

A devoted educator and respected school leader in Surrey, Adele began her career teaching English and went on to serve as vice-principal and principal. She was a pioneer for women in significant leadership roles. Her example cleared the way for others to follow. Colleagues remember her as a strong leader who walked the halls “with the presence of a queen and the warmth of a mother.” Despite her unforgettable poise, she was also a joyful storyteller—always ready to share a story (or two or three), and to make those around her feel at ease.

For many new teachers, Adele was more than a principal—she was a mentor, role model, and source of encouragement. She was supportive, nurturing, and deeply empathetic, forming meaningful connections both professionally and personally. Her example of confident, compassionate leadership inspired others and helped shape the leaders they would become.

Adele brought the same love and dedication to her family and friends. She shared a joyful life of conversation, laughter, and adventure with her beloved husband, Brian Clarke. Adele treasured time with her children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She faced pulmonary fibrosis with courage and grace. The illness may have affected her body, but it could do nothing to weaken her spirit that remained rooted in love, kindness and connection.

Adele brought each of these qualities to the Board. In every decision and conversation, she demonstrated a commitment focused on making our community a better place. Thank you, Adele. We will never forget you.
