Purpose Society hosts Resilience BC Anti-Racism funding and coordinates a New Westminster Spoke Committee, which identifies and addresses racism in the community.
A member of the Spoke Committee, Ernie Cardinal shared an overview of wrongs of the past and his own experience with racism in the present health care system. From this very frank discussion, committee members decided to create an Indigenous anti-racism toolkit for health clinics.
The Fraser North West Division of Family Practice (FNWDFP) who oversee 55 health clinics in this area, were happy to collaborate on the project. Artist Rain Pierre was engaged to design artwork for the toolkit of books, posters, and information.
The kit is ready to go. However, it is not just going to be dropped off at health clinics. Over “Lunch with Ernie”, staff will pass along the beautiful toolkit, while Ernie will talk with front-line workers and doctors about the systemic racism Indigenous peoples still face.
