Overdose Crisis Response
Since a British Columbia wide public health emergency in April 2016 due to the opioid crisis, Purpose Society has been working to help our neighbours and fellow Canadians who have been exposed to a toxic drug supply while already in their addicitons.
From the BC Coroners Service:

In response to this crisis that has killed over 17,000 British Columbians in the past decade, the Purpose Society has launched a number of services.
Our Health Contact Centre is not only a safe consumption site for people who use IV drugs, but also a place where our neighbours and friends receive compassionate assistance, such as peer support and community referrals to health clinics, counselling, etc.
Our main office reception area on Begbie Street provides harm reduction supplies to local people in downtown New Westminster.
Our Mobile Health Van provides harm reduction supplies to those people in neighbouring areas of Metro Vancouver who can’t make it to our main office. Our Mobile Health Van provides harm reduction supplies, referrals to housing/mental health/detox supports and collecting inappropriately discarded needles within your community.
Our Nightly Shelter provides not only harm reduction supplies, but also a light supper and small breakfast, along with a safe warm place to sleep.
For some people who receive these services, it will be a step towards improving their health. For all, a place where people care about them and meet them where they are in life.
